Job Description:

Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge.  MGCC provides opportunities for the extension of knowledge, skills and personal enrichment in an environment that maintains high academic standards and respect for each individual. The IT Academy seeks an organized and enthusiastic Administrative Assistant to support students, faculty, and the director. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring the effective operation of the academy by coordinating administrative tasks, maintaining records, and facilitating communication. This position will be required to be on grounds in both Clifton Forge (Main Campus) and Buena Vista (Rockbridge Regional Center.)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the academy, providing assistance to students, parents, faculty, and visitors.
  • Provide student supervision and promote student engagement.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including scheduling, correspondence, and event planning.
  • Assist faculty with classroom logistics, instructional materials, and technology support.
  • Support the director with budget tracking, purchasing, and reporting needs.
  • Maintain student records, including admissions, enrollment, attendance, and certification tracking.
  • Coordinate MG-TEC events, including field trips, workshops, showcases, and board meetings.
  • Foster a welcoming and professional environment for all MG-TEC stakeholders.
  • Provide administrative support and proctoring for Pearson VUE Testing Center (both Clifton Forge and Buena Vista) and/or other testing environments. Must complete Pearson VUE Test Administrator certification within the first 6 months of employment.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in office administration or a related field.
  • Proficiency with office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace).
  • Experience with submitting orders and tracking purchases.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.

Additional Considerations:

Familiarity with educational settings or IT industries is a plus.
