Job Duties

As part of The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR), you will play a critical role in the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified people start businesses and work in their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor and are responsible for regulating certain professions and occupations, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.

This position serves as the centralized point of contact for the public community when accessing services rendered from the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Operates the main telecommunications system for the calling customers to the Agency and maintain the front desk lobby area for all visitors to the Agency. Serve as a replacement for the Director’s administrative assistant during her absence as necessary and support to the Human Resources Office.

TELEWORK OPTIONS: Please note that this position may be eligible for limited telework and is not a full-time telework position. Upon hire into this position, the agency requires the incumbent to be in the position for 90 days before a specific telework schedule may be submitted for consideration.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to work well under pressure maintaining a professional and courteous manner.

Ability to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.

Good customer service skills.

Demonstrated excellent telephone skills while handling multiple customers.

Clerical skills such as processing incoming and outgoing mail, filing, typing, document processing, and data entry.

Working knowledge of productivity software packages.

Additional Considerations

Experience with general office procedures and equipment.

Good oral and written communications skills.
