The University of Virginia Facilities Management Department has an available Custodian opportunity!

Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors. The Custodian completes special project work as assigned. They gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment.

Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash is required. Ability to follow established policies and procedures and adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also essential. Microsoft Outlook (email) and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required.

NOTE: Shift for this position is:

-Monday - Friday 3:30pm - 12:00am (this shift qualifies for shift differential pay)

Duties Include:
  • Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned areas in clean and orderly condition.
  • Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, etc. Apply proper methods and materials.
  • Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed. May mix own cleaning solutions.
  • Report all repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping-related violations by residents, guests, or staff.
  • May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing bulbs, or more complex tasks such as using auto scrubbers, battery powered, or electrical powered equipment.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Education: None
  • Experience: Some experience with basic housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash preferred.


Background checks will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.

Position Compensation: - Starting at $15.00 per hour, dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. This position will also receive an additional $2/hour for shift differential pay.

This is a full-time non-exempt position with UVA benefits ; t his position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site. Employees benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties as a housekeeper, such as dusting and mopping, etc. This job requires a range of continual movements, including walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, twisting and lifting.
